Bainbridge Island 11th Annual Harvest Fair on Sunday 9/25th

annual harvest fair at Johnson Farm, on Sunday, September 25th. In the late 1800s, Andrew Johnson owned 80 acres of farmland on Island Center Hill that produced vegetables, fruit and butter for local residents. Mr. Johnson successfully operated a large scale farm from 1888 through the mid-1900s. The farm continued to expand after World War II, & Andrews grandson, Harvey Johnson, introduced grapes, fruit & nut orchards, & beekeeping. When Harvey died, neighbors collaborated with the City of Bainbridge Island and The Trust for Public Land to help preserve the remaining 14.51 acres for agricultural purposes. ...(Continued)...

BILT has successfully applied for and hired our second AmeriCorps Intern. Starting October 1, he will replace our current AmeriCorps intern, Jacob, and act as our Stewardship Coordinator. He will work full-time for BILT for 10.5 months, reporting to Brenda, our Stewardship Director, in order to more effectively manage all of our stewardship responsibilities and new stewardship projects. As part of this program, our intern will receive a very modest stipend from Washington Service Corp to cover his living expenses (barely!). He is moving here in September from out of state and we are, therefore, looking to help him find a suitable living arrangement. Do you have an apartment, ADU or, perhaps, even a private room that this young man might rent from you at a very modest rate? Almost 140 Acres of Land Transferred from City to Bainbridge Park District

BAINBRIDGE ISLAND — The Bainbridge City Council voted to transfer nearly 140 acres of open space parkland to the Bainbridge park district on Wednesday, capping a sometimes contentious five-year negotiation process.
"That was a momentous occasion," Mayor Kirsten Hytopoulos said after the council's vote.

Ten years ago at age 58, this dynamic duo decided to do one more big thing and created an accredited graduate school where students obtain MBA degrees in sustainability.
